Seeing the potential Ed and Laurie Maas bought it from the bank in 1996. He oversaw the renovations and reopened the on May 15, 1997. The Orleans Historical Society presented them the award for preserving a historic structure.

The Inn has also received numerous awards from various local charitable groups. Ed serves on the board of the Cape & Islands United Way and has received numerous awards for the many philanthropic organizations he has helped over the years. He received the City of Hope Humanitarian Award as well as many professional and civic recognition awards. Working together the Maas Family has turned an abandoned, bankrupt business into one now rated in the top 10 performing hotels nationwide as recognized by Lodging Hospitality Magazine.
