Ocean, bays, and lakes

Want to experience the sheer power of the Atlantic Ocean? We recommend Nauset Beach, just a few minutes east of the inn. Nauset Beach is a stunning ten-mile stretch of sparkling white sand and rolling dunes along the Atlantic. Depending on weather conditions, waves can vary from small, gentle ones that kids can enjoy to massive swells that challenge the best surfers. This is a very popular beach, so, if you plan on using the public parking facilities, get there early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

For a more relaxed experience, head a few minutes west to Skaket Beach along Cape Cod Bay. The water's relatively warm and calm. Tidal pools form at low tide, exposing a variety of sea life, including fish and small crabs. Skaket Beach is the perfect place to fly a kite, take an evening stroll, or enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Pilgrim Lake and Crystal Lake are small, family-friendly lakes just a few minutes south of Orleans Waterfront Inn. Perfect for swimming, canoeing, and picnics.

The perfect Paddling location

kayaks and canoes

The Orleans area has some of the best kayaking and canoeing opportunities anywhere. You can basically drop your boat in any body of water in the surrounding area and enjoy a relaxing day of pleasant paddling.

One excellent location for kayaking or canoeing is Upper Pleasant Bay. You can head for any number of small, undeveloped islands or explore the bay's many backwater areas.

Nauset Marsh is another excellent area to explore by kayak, paddleboard, or canoe. Nauset Marsh is a salt marsh creek system that is part of Cape Cod National Seashore Park. You'll be able to see a variety of wildlife, including gray seals, heron, egrets, gulls, and terns.

Of course, the most convenient place to drop your boat is next to Orleans Waterfront Inn. It's easy to do since we're right on the banks of Orleans Cove.

As a group of 7 girlfriends experiencing Cape Cod for the first time, Orleans Inn was the perfect location for us! Ed, Inn owner, could not have been more helpful with suggestions on what to see & do on Cape Cod. The Restaurant staff & housekeeping was so accommodating and friendly, it made our first Cape Cod experience a joy! Complimentary breakfast, in room mini fridges, gorgeous waterfront views enhance the experience. Thank you Team Orleans Inn, we hope to visit again soon!

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at the Orleans Waterfront Inn, perfectly located on the elbow of Cape Cod with a front row view of Nauset Harbor. I had searched extensively for a place where we could bring our cat, but all the "pet-friendly" hotels I found were in fact friendly only for dogs, not cats. Finally, I stumbled upon another reviewer on this site who had brought a cat, so I immediately called and spoke with Ed, the proprietor, who said we could indeed bring our Sweetie Pie. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and shown to our room (#4) overlooking the harbor. It was cozy, but immaculate and contained everything we needed, including a private bathroom. We had dinner at the restaurant that night and enjoyed the best New England clam chowder we'd ever tasted. Breakfasts on the front deck were blissful -- stunning views of the water, boats, and swans, and delicious scrambled eggs and coffee every morning, among other treats. Ed gave us tips on nearby beaches and sites, and told us the best place for whale watching (Provincetown), which was the highlight of our trip. He and his team could not have been more gracious. We truly felt like we were at our home away from home, and can't wait to return next summer!
